Field of research
Dr. Bernd Wollscheid is heading the >NCCR Neuro Center for Proteomics and a research group focusing on the detection and functional characterization of cell surface proteins upon perturbation of the nervous system as predictive markers of disease.
Specific Contribution to Research in InfectX
Mass-spectrometry (MS) based proteomics allows for the sensitive, parallel identification and quantification of significant numbers of peptides/proteins. This group uses CSC technology for quantitative measurements of host cell surface protein barcodes during infection of selected pathogens. Such barcodes contain information about the observed proteins and their quantities at the cell surface over time. In combination with MS-based phosphoproteomic measurements for the detection of signaling networks during infection, this approach will allow the construction of pathogen-specific host protein signaling networks. Sysyphus, a database from the Wollscheid group, will be used to store and provide access to data from proteomics analysis of the cell surface and phosphorylations during host cell infection.
